DNRT Partnership Protects 22 Acres

DNRT, in partnership with the Buzzards Bay Coalition, has permanently protected a 22-acre property on Little River Road—another important step in conserving the landscapes that define our community. Although this project has been in the works for several months, the Conservation Restriction (CR) has now officially been recorded at the Registry of Deeds!

This successful project continues a longstanding partnership that has protected remarkable places such as Dike Creek Reserve and Ocean View Farm. Together, we are creating a lasting network of conserved land that will benefit wildlife, our communities, and future generations.

Conservation science tells us that larger, connected landscapes are far more valuable than isolated parcels. By protecting land adjacent to existing conservation areas, we create continuous habitat that supports a greater diversity of plants and wildlife while strengthening the resilience of these ecosystems in the face of climate change.

The Little River Road property is a critical piece of that larger vision. Nestled between hundreds of acres already protected by DNRT, this highly developable parcel connects existing conservation land while preserving the scenic character of one of the area’s most beautiful roads. Its mature forest, expansive meadow, and isolated wetlands provide important wildlife habitat today and will give coastal ecosystems the space they need to adapt as sea levels rise.

This conservation success belongs to our community. We are especially grateful to the 20 families whose generous gifts made this project possible. Their leadership, combined with the support of DNRT members and partners, ensured that this special landscape will remain protected forever. Under the conservation plan, the existing house and barn will remain in private residential use, while permanent conservation restrictions held by DNRT and the Buzzards Bay Coalition will prevent future development across the rest of the property.

Every acre we protect is the result of people who believe that clean water, healthy habitats, scenic landscapes, and a strong quality of life are worth preserving. Thank you for helping make this lasting investment in our region’s future.
