Join the Southcoast Massachusetts City Nature Challenge!!
Our friends at the Wonder Spiral are looking for nature enthusiasts of all kinds to help with our regional bioblitz, no expertise needed and you can even participate in your own backyard!!! For the first year ever our region is taking part in an international bioblitz: the City Nature Challenge!! It’s super simple, and if you want to join one of these programs, the Wonder Spiral will even teach you how to use the iNaturalist app!
Southcoast City Nature Challenge BioBlitz Details:
When: April 25-28 2025
Where: Southcoast MA, including the following communities: Acushnet, Berkley, Dartmouth, Dighton, East Freetown, Fairhaven, Fall River, Freetown, Lakeville, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Rehoboth, Seekonk, Somerset, Swansea, Westport
How: Share photos in iNaturalist of all WILD organisms you find, including: plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, etc.
Why: Because it’s fun, easy, and helps scientists and communities understand and better protect local biodiversity!!
Who: Anyone in our geographic region with a smartphone or the ability to take pictures and upload them to iNaturalist!
The Wonder Spiral will be updating their public google calendar and Facebook events. The Wonder Spiral Programs will include iNaturalist trainings, nature walks, and identification parties.
It’s super simple to participate! Just follow these steps:
- Download the iNaturalist App and create an account
- Fill out this google form to stay in the loop
- Join the CNC project and the Southcoast Project
- Gather a group, choose to go alone, or join one of the programs happening in the region!
- Enjoy nature, look for wonder, and capture photos sometime between April 25-28
