May Work Party Recap

Last month was our last work party of the season! We had an amazing turnout for our Helfand Farm work party. We continue to work on removing invasive plants from around the property, and this work party was no exception. We removed garlic mustard from several areas, including Greer’s Garden. This effort has been ongoing for some time, and progress continues every year!

With so many trees and shrubs previously planted around the farm, many have begun to outgrow their cages. We worked to expand the cage size on some of our shrubs and removed the cages entirely from others. We also constructed a trellis to allow plants to grow over some infrastructure in the garden. In addition, we completed some much-needed maintenance to reclaim areas that had become overgrown with grass.

Afterward, we had a lovely celebration to recognize the efforts of our volunteers over the last couple of months. We appreciate everyone’s hard work in helping make our reserves a better place. Work parties will resume after the summer, and we hope to see you there!
