New Platform at Dike Creek Reserve

On February 28, the winter clouds relented and a beautiful spring-like afternoon set the stage for a small gathering at Dike Creek Reserve to celebrate the opening of a new wooden viewing platform dedicated to the legacy of Anne Van Vleck Webb. DNRT was joined by Anne’s family and friends to cut the ceremonial ribbon and walk out to savor the views of the saltmarsh.

It was Anne’s daughters who had the vision of building a viewing platform for visitors to overlook the beautiful salt marsh that was very near and dear to their mother. This platform is an added amenity to the land that their mother had protected in 2019. The preservation of the land that would become Dike Creek Reserve was a partnership between DNRT, the family, and The Buzzards Bay Coalition.

The project was led by DNRT’s Land Manager Linda Vanderveer. Linda handled all the permitting and logistics, coordinated with the Webb family, and oversaw the construction of the platform by Sicard Construction. As a result of this collaboration with the Webb family, Dike Creek Reserve visitors will now be able to enjoy expansive views of this most productive habitat in all seasons.
