Notes from the Field – March Recap

Thank you so much to our volunteers for making the March work parties so successful!

We had three great work parties last month. Early in the month we were at Smith Farm fixing vandalism damage to our observation platform and removing invasive plants. Over the years we have been working in three separate fields and it was exciting to see the number of invasive plants down in all of them! Thanks to our handy volunteers we were able to get the damage to the platform fixed.

At our McBratney Reserve we focused on pruning and fertilizing our blueberry bushes at the end of the trail. It is important for the plant’s current and future health to take care of them before they bud. We also picked up trash along the road while some extra hands removed invasive plants near the trail. At the end of the month we had a very important work party at Parsons Reserve. Every year we lay down wood chips down on the paths around the daffodil fields to ensure the path is durable for all our visitors. During this work party we also installed a new bench for visitors to sit on, cleaned debris off the flowers, and cleaned up any boundary logs along the path that were rotting.

Last month we had quite a few of our volunteers use their personal vehicles to move brush and wood chips for us. Without those volunteers we would not have been able to get nearly as much accomplished, so a special thanks to them!

We have 5 more work parties on the schedule so get them on your calendar and we can’t wait to see you there!
